ED KUEPPER: SOLO & BY REQUEST
While we wait with much anticipation on the arrival of the debut album for Kuepper’s favourite new band The Aints! the proto-punk original and career songsmith returns this June – August to his ‘Solo & By Request’ show performing material from right across his 50+ albums and a career that began in 1976 with The Saints groundbreaking release (I’m) Stranded.
“In an age when most musicians come and go, Kuepper still stands tall as an icon of the Australian independent music scene. Over his extraordinary career, Kuepper has been a Saint, a Laughing Clown and an Aint among other things. This evening Kuepper proved that he’s a national treasure.”
The Saints, Laughing Clowns and solo Kuepper Klassics it’s all up for grabs. Whisper loudly and Herr Kuepper might even drop in solo versions of those great new Aints! classics.
Everything I’ve Got Belongs To You was played on the proviso that the audience joined in, which resulted in a sublime call-and-response chorus singalong that even seemed to leave the great man speechless for a moment. Kuepper then confirmed, with a wry smile, that he’d “never heard it quite like that before”. This was followed up with the dynamic Electric Storm before Kuepper finished up his set with the first request of this evening: The Way I Made You Feel. – The Music Perth review
In addition to his solo performances and at the request the great songwriting icon himself Kuepper will appear as a guest performer (alongside Jimmy Barnes, Kate Ceberano and others) at ‘An Evening with Jimmy Webb and Friends’ appearing at the State Theatre, Sydney and Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.
