Despite not having released a new album in three (3) years and the upcoming visit being the third tour off the back of that same record (Jukebox) Cat Power continues to well, power, with sold-out shows increasingly becoming the norm. For this most recent tour we can add Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal to that list as well as the first of Cat Power’s two night stand at Perth’s Live at the Quarry. Don’t be fooled into thinking all other shows won’t follow suit though, we’re just about “down to the dozen” – intentional Captain Beefheart reference there (R.I.P) – for all remaining shows. Remember: you snooze you lose!
CARIBOU/FOUR TET – MELBOURNE MIDNIGHT SHOW SELLING FAST
Despite it being a midweek show and with a doors open time of midnight, the second Melbourne show for the killer double bill of Canada’s Caribou and the UK’s Four Tet to be held at Melbourne’s Hi-Fi on February 16th is well over half sold out already so a complete sell out is a given. The Perth International Arts Festival show (PIAF) for the pairing has also sold out with Sydney & Brisbane hot on their heels. Again: you snooze…

Ed Kuepper joins with former sparring partner Mark Dawson on drums, to re-imagine his classic albums Electrical Storm and Today Wonder – in their entirety – for shows in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle & Kincumber this coming March. This is the first time Ed & Mark have worked together since the early nineties.
THE LLOYD COLE SMALL ENSEMBLE
Lloyd Cole returns to our shores next February, this time in the guise of the Lloyd Cole Small Ensemble, an acoustic three-piece featuring the talents of Lloyd Cole on vocals and acoustic guitar plus Mark Schwaber on acoustic guitar and mandolin and Matt Cullen on acoustic guitar and banjo.
“It is quite possibly the best Lloyd Cole-edition ever, with never-ending highpoints; from the old ‘Rattlesnakes’ (on mandolin) to the new fantastically beautiful ‘Why in the world’.” – DN (Swedish paper)
With his most recent Australian solo tour having been a complete sell out this first band outing of Cole’s for over twenty years is sure to follow suit.
